What to do for a 2 Year Anniversary?

What do you do for a 2 year anniversary?  You buy more machines.  Magnafuel in Colorado Springs has a very successful run since they bought their first HURCO 2 years ago.  So much so that they wanted to bring more production in-house to streamline their process.

One of these new machines is the HURCO VMX42Di, direct drive 15,000 rpm spindle, recently introduced at IMTS.  The other is the HURCO TMX8MYSi multi-axis turning center.  We are excited to see what kind of parts that they can produce with these most recent additions to their Shop.

Understanding Cutter Comp

I came across an article in the CNC-West October/November 2018 issue that effectively explains one of the questions I have been asked repeatedly  to explain throughout my career – “What cutter comp do I use and why?”. Tim Paul, Manufacturing and Business Strategy Manager at Autodesk has done an excellent job of explaining the differences of the various cutter compensation options a programmer will find in most CAD/CAM systems, along with how they are correctly utilized on a CNC’s console by the machinist. Here is a link to Tim’s article.  Please share this with your team!

Come see you.

HURCO has a 3D scanner set up in their IMTS booth this year.  If you want, you can set down, give it about 2 minutes to scan your head.  The file is then sent to a 5 axis machine and you are immortalized!  They will text you when the sculpture is done.   They are also machining 2.5 Axis Coins with your face on them as well.  This is a pretty cool demo so stop by and check it out.

IMTS Preview Come See us.

Hyundai-Wia will be at IMTS in force this year.  They will be displaying their latest in 5 Axis Technology with both Heidenhain and the New I-trol CNC Controls.   You will be able to see several of the latest turning centers and horizontal machining centers as well.  On the side, they will have the new Genesis G80 Performance Sedan in the booth as well.  Something even the dealers are having a hard time getting a hold of.

Congrats to the FMS TEAM!

Every year HURCO gives its’ dealers awards for best performance over the past 12 months.   The Foothills team received the award for the third best dealer in North America for market share.  Not bad for a state that makes a majority of its’ money not manufacturing.

If you haven’t noticed we seem to gravitate towards the latest technology in CNC Controls.  For decades, Southwestern Industries have been the leader in Tool Room Technology with thousands of their controls in tool rooms just about everywhere.  The Prototrak Control is known as one of the most versatile to go from print to part in a low volume, high mix environment.  This September they will be releasing the RMX version.  It includes a touch screen, brushless servo motors, DXF FIle Conversion, TRAKing and more that they won’t tell me about.  Stay tuned for news on this upcoming release.

New Machine?

VM10i-angle-MAX5-web.png

No this isn’t the ever popular HURCO VM10i.  It is the VM10i Plus.  Standard on this machine is a 12,000 RPM spindle, Spindle Chiller Unit, Rigid Tapping, and Ultimotion Software with 10,000 Block Look Ahead.

We just got one of these on our floor last week and we love to show it off.  Please feel free to come by and take a look.

Another Happy HURCO Convert!

5 for the discerning crowd

Introducing the Hyundai-Wia 5 axis machining center that will impress even the unimpressable…”The Best 5-axis vertical machining center in the world.”
Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.49.17 AM

HYUNDAI-Wia Europe R&D center developed this machine to compete with the best machines in the market and succeeded.  It incorporates a large mono-block design with an X/Y box-in-box gantry.  Although aspects of this design are not new, Hyundai has perfected it at a reasonable price.

Available with spindles from 15,000 to 40,000 rpm, tool changer from 34 to 102 tools, and easily integrated with load/unload automation. To achieve the best surface finishes and tightest tolerances, Direct Drive Motors are utilized in the A & C Axis.  High-precision linear scales are standard on all axes to control thermal growth.  Rotary scales are standard for rotating axis.

It is fast.  2,362 IPM rapids at 1G accel/dec.  This machine is able to achieve these speeds while holding the tightest of tolerance because of the Box-in-Box Design.  With two ball screws in the Y axis, it is able to move the relatively small mass of the Y-axis easily without oversized motors fighting gravity and mass.

It is powerful.  The standard 15K spindle is driven by a 41 HP built-in motor and produces 113 ft/lbs of torque.  Even the optional 24k Spindle has 35 HP and 64ft/lbs of torque.
